Brad ForschnerKeymasterA “no” vote opposes this initiative to require nonprofit federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) to spend at least 90% of their annual total revenue on expenses that advance the health center’s mission.
Carmela Coyle, president and CEO of the California Hospital Association:
“The Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West (SEIU-UHW) also filed paperwork for a measure that would create a spending cap on administrative costs for federally qualified health centers. These measures couldn’t have come at a more precarious time for health care in California. Following the largest cut to health care in our nation’s history, this is a moment when the state should be doing all it can to recruit and retain thoughtful, mission-driven leaders who can develop innovative ways to preserve access to vital health services for patients. Instead, this proposal will only make it difficult — if not impossible — to do so.”Graciela Soto, CEO of Altura Community Clinic in Tulare:
“We pick up our patients to and from their house to the clinic at no cost. This would not be considered part of the mission service. We hire Zumba instructors to try and target obesity. We work with farmworkers and dairy workers — lechería — by providing health and blood screenings and education, all of which would be decimated by the initiative.”Jodi Hicks, CEO of Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California:
“We will not stand idly by while political bullies use the most vulnerable Californians as leverage. Make no mistake – this measure would have dire consequences – forcing clinics to close at a time when patients are already struggling for access to care as federal cuts wreak havoc on our state’s safety net. We remain opposed to this dangerous measure and stand with our health care partners in urging voters to say NO this November.”Francsico Silva, president and CEO of the California Primary Care Association:
“We will not allow California’s most vulnerable patients to be used as political pawns. Our broad coalition will mount an aggressive campaign to educate voters, defeat this reckless initiative, and protect care for millions of patients.” -
