Cali Gobi Festival Brings Mongolian Nomadic Culture to the Mojave Desert

Newberry Springs, CA – Newberry Springs is set to host a unique cultural experience this September as the Cali Gobi Festival transforms the desert landscape into a three-day celebration of music, tradition, and community. Cali Gobi is entering its third year as a three-day nomadic festival celebrating music, culture, nature, and community.

The event, organized by Blue Bugs Entertainment, will take place from September 25 through September 27 at Bataar Camp https://www.bataarcamp.com/ , located at 44222 Tonopah Street in Newberry Springs. Gates open at 6:00 PM on Friday, and the festival concludes at 4:00 PM on Sunday.

Cali Gobi draws inspiration from the spirit of the Gobi Desert, offering attendees a chance to experience Mongolian nomadic culture through a range of activities. The festival features live music, throat singing, traditional Mongolian music, DJs, and late-night sets. Cultural performances include folk dance, fire shows, and demonstrations of traditional Mongolian games such as shagai, or sheep bone games.

Beyond the stage, attendees can participate in horse riding, archery, wellness experiences including yoga and sound baths, and gather around campfires beneath the desert sky. The festival also hosts the Silk Road Bazaar, where vendors offer clothing, jewelry, art, and cultural goods.

The event takes place at Bataar Camp, a Mongolian yurt camp that sits along historic Route 66. The camp features traditional Mongolian gers, or yurts, and serves as a gathering place for both the Mongolian community and travelers seeking an authentic desert experience. Camping is available for those who wish to stay overnight, with options to bring your own tent or rent limited two-person tents and Mongolian ger stays.

The festival is family-friendly and inclusive, welcoming anyone interested in experiencing Mongolian culture, connecting with nature, and enjoying live music. Organizers emphasize that attendees do not need to be Mongolian to participate—only curiosity, openness, and respect are requested.

Cali Gobi follows a successful pilot event held in September 2025, which drew approximately 200 attendees. Organizers plan to make this an annual tradition each September.
